Thanks for Messenger

We have subscribed to The Catholic Messenger since 1972. Twenty-five years while in Centerville, 10 years while retired in Sun City West, Ariz., and now 4-1/2 years in Waukee, Iowa, after moving back to be with our family in these declining years!

We have so enjoyed The Messenger during these years. We are the parents of nine children and they also enjoy reading the issues we pass down each week.

We are sorry to learn that Father Richard McBrien’s editorials are not carried as of late (due to illness). His articles always prompted reason, questions, reassessment and encouragement to move beyond the Baltimore Catechism and the canon laws of the Church. It is indeed an individual’s responsibility to search for the truth. It has been written:  “Once you have experienced God, you are never subservient to a theologian.” (Author unknown)

In nearly 40 years of enjoying The Messenger we feel it has been a very balanced publication, and we do hope and pray that this will continue! All most people ask of any diocesan newspaper is that all views can be discussed which are morally just!

Both you and Frank Wessling are to be commended as editors of this very needed teaching avenue of our faith.
