Support Operation Rice Bowl

There are many worthy charitable organizations that rely on our support for their humanitarian work.  As a couple we have chosen to support Operation Rice Bowl (ORB).

ORB is a Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic community. It is the face of the American Catholic Church working in over 100 developing countries without regard to race, religion or nationality.

Operation Rice Bowl funds programs that ensure an adequate food and water supply in poverty stricken areas. It helps people to help themselves through education, small business micro loans, teaching effective farming practices and health education.

When we contribute to Operation Rice Bowl, 25 percent of the funds stay here in the Diocese of Davenport to fund programs that address hunger and poverty needs in our communities.  Last year the Diocese of Davenport granted over $12,000 to local non- profit organizations.

Ninety-five percent of all funds collected by Catholic Relief Services directly fund programs.  Less than 5 percent of funds raised are used for fundraising and overhead expenses.   CRS is rated by Forbes Magazine and The American Institute of Philanthropy as one of the most efficient charities in the U.S.
