Burlington — “A Biblical Walk Through Scriptural Roots of the Roman Catholic Mass,” a five-week Bible study, will begin Oct. 2 at St. Paul Church. Catholics and people of any faith interested in learning about the Mass are welcome. Morning and evening sessions will be offered. Registration deadline is Sept. 15. Iowa City — The Diocese of Davenport Advocacy Team will meet Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 5:30-7 p.m. at St. Patrick Church. The team aims to address the root causes of poverty and injustice by educating and engaging people in the diocese to advocate for sustainable change, locally and globally. Cosgrove — Cosgrove Pork Day will take place Aug. 28 at St. Peter Church. There will be a polka Mass at 11 a.m. at the Cosgrove Institute. A pork dinner served from 11:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. will cost $9 for adults, $4 for children ages 2-10, and free for children younger than 2. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. for a bean bag tournament at noon. Children’s games will be offered from noon to 3 p.m., and a kids’ tractor pull starts at 3 p.m. Live entertainment will be from noon to 1:30 p.m., and an auction will begin at 1:30 p.m. A $5,000 cash raffle will follow.

Davenport — A celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Oaks of Mamre Catholic Worker House will take place Saturday, Aug. 27, from 2-5 p.m. in Fejervary Park, 1800 W. 12th St. All are welcome; bring a dish to share. Donations to replace windows and cover taxes can be sent to Oaks Catholic Worker, 1713 W. 9th St., Davenport, IA  52804.

DeWitt — St. Joseph Parish’s fall festival will take place Sunday, Sept. 18. A beef and pork dinner will be served from 3-7 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Carryouts are available. There will be a silent auction, children’s games, pop walk, farmers market, bingo and raffle.

DeWitt — St. Joseph Parish’s dodgeball tournament will take place Saturday, Sept. 17, at the school gym. Registration fee is $40, and registration deadline is Sept. 14. Teams may include up to eight members. Contact Jim Sheppard at (563) 659-2990 or jlsheppard@mchsi.com.

Farmington — St. Boniface Parish’s annual fall dinner will take place Sunday, Sept. 18, at the air-conditioned Harmony High School, six miles north of Farmington. Roast turkey, lamb and pork will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10. There will be a cakewalk, bingo, raffle, door prizes, gift baskets, silent auction, bazaar and bake sale.

Grinnell — St. Mary Parish will hold a dads’ Belgian waffle breakfast Saturday, Aug. 27, from 7:30-10:30 a.m. in the religious education center. Tickets are $7 in advance from the parish office or $8 at the door. Children 5 and younger eat free. Takeouts are available.

Petersville — Immaculate Conception Parish’s beef and pork dinner will take place Sunday, Aug. 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be bingo, a country store and raffle. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. Carryouts are available.

Sigourney — A salad luncheon with Viva la Chicken will take place at St. Mary Hall Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $8. An express line will be available for people on their lunch break. Raffle tickets will be sold at the door for a double wedding ring pattern quilt donated by Gini Garrett. Tickets cost $1 for one, $5 for six or $10 for 12. St. Mary’s Sampler cookbooks will be sold at the door for $15.
