Sessions on marriage, quilting scheduled at Wheatland retreat center

WHEATLAND — The following events are slated at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat in September.

• “Finding Holiness in Marriage” will take place Saturday, Sept. 10, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee is $15, which includes lunch.

Vatican II highlighted the “universal call to holiness.” This day of reflection will examine that call as it presents itself in daily married life, with an emphasis on prayer.

Presenter will be Precious Blood Bishop Joseph Charron. He became auxiliary bishop of the St. Paul/Minneapolis archdiocese in 1990 and bishop of the Des Moines Diocese in 1994. He retired in 2007 and now enjoys doing retreats and missions.

• “Piecing Peacefully” will take place Wednesday, Sept. 14, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fee is $15, which includes lunch.

Participants will see more than 30 quilts and hear their stories, closing with a series of Lone Star quilts.  Attendees will talk about the role of quilts in the underground railroad and during the Civil War.

Presenters are Garry and Donna Lanman. Garry Lanman founded and was pastor of a Quad-Cities church for 37 years. He began quilting when he retired in 1996. Donna Lanman is a homemaker, seamstress, and children’s Bible teacher who started quilting in 1991.
