KEOTA-Verda T. Sieren, age 92, of Keota, died Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

Verda was born October 2, 1918, in Harper, Iowa, to Peter and Pearl (Sondag) Adam. On May 3, 1939 she married John W. Sieren at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. She grew up, lived and farmed in the Harper community until moving to Keota in 1970. Verda was a cook at Keota Schools for 17 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Verda especially enjoyed playing cards, baking cinnamon rolls for her family and leading the rosary before mass.

Survivors include four sons: LaVerne Sieren and wife Mildred of Keota, Gary Sieren and wife Judy of Washington, Leland Sieren and wife Shirley of Sigourney and John R. Sieren of Mesa, Arizona; one daughter: Mary Beth Cave and husband Mike of Harper; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters: Verena Snakenberg of Sigourney and Edith Warnick Hammes of Delta and one brother: Harry Jo Adam of Columbus Junction. She was prededed in death by her parents; husband: John in 2009; three sisters: Adella Greiner, Ruth Ann Adam, Oda Reed, Theophala in infancy and Ruth Ann in infancy and three brothers: Juan Richard Adam, Elmer Adam and Theodore in infancy.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Holy Trinity Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Troy Richmond officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries – St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a rosary at 7:00 p.m.
