LITURGY/PRAYER

Davenport — Three evenings of prayer will take place at Eagles’ Wings Retreat Center, 5816 Telegraph Road, on Wednesday, Aug. 3; Thursday, Aug. 4; and Friday, Aug. 5. Prayer begins at 6:30 p.m. These will not be prayer meetings, but times of intercession, letting the Holy Spirit lead. Attendees will pray for repentance and renewal in the Church and the United States.

Davenport — Bishop Robert Gruss will celebrate Mass for the people of the Diocese of Davenport on Sept. 4 at 3 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. The Mass will be held five-and-a-half weeks after he is ordained bishop of the Diocese of Rapid City, S.D.

Hills — A healing Mass with Msgr. Marvin Mottet, Father Troy Richmond and Father William Kneemiller will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 12, at St. Joseph Church. Confession starts at 6:30 p.m., and Mass begins at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

Rock Island, Ill. – A healing Mass will be celebrated Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 2810 Fifth Ave.

RETREATS

Wheatland — Two early August programs are scheduled at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat. “Knit One, Pray Too,” a day of knitting, fellowship and prayer, is slated for Thursday, Aug. 4, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Fee is $15, which includes lunch. Participants should bring size 11 or 13 knitting needles, three six-ounce skeins of yarn (or a project in progress). “Becoming a Servant Leader” is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 9, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Fee is $15, which includes lunch. This retreat will involve participants in exploring what servant leadership is, why it works and how a person can become a servant leader. Camanche — Church of the Visitation Parish will hold a corn boil Sunday, Aug. 7, from 3-7:30 p.m. at the church, 1028 Middle Road. Cost is $7 per adult, $3 per child age 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger. The menu will include corn on the cob, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, potato salad, beans, dessert and beverage. Carryouts are available, and the public is welcome. Proceeds will help pay for new furnaces.

Goose Lake — Assumption & St. Patrick Parish in Charlotte is hosting a beef and pork dinner with all the trimmings, including a beverage and dessert, on Sunday, Aug. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event will be held at the Millennium Ballroom in Goose Lake.  Carryouts are available.  Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for children 3 and younger.  The event will include a gift basket silent auction, children’s games, bingo, a country store and local entertainment.

Lovilia — St. Peter Parish will hold its annual picnic  Sunday, July 31. The day will begin with 10:30 a.m. Mass, followed by dinner at 11:30 a.m. Menu features roast beef or ham, mashed potatoes, homemade noodles, green beans, fresh salads, corn, dinner rolls and homemade pies and desserts. A country store will open at 10 a.m., and an auction will start at 1:30 p.m.

Washington — A Theology on Tap session for young adults will take place Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. at the KC Hall Lounge, 606 W. Third St. There will be a taco bar buffet. Freewill donations will be accepted. Drinks will be available for purchase. Speaker will be Father Joe DeFrancisco, professor of sacramental and spiritual theology at St. Ambrose University in Davenport.

WORKSHOPS

Iowa City — The Diocese of Davenport will present the workshop “Great Expec­tations: Coaching Parents to Form Their Own Children” Aug. 26 at St. Patrick Church. Registration deadline is Aug 19.
