Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy M. Brophy, 89, formerly of Long Grove, Iowa, will be noon Monday, June 13, 2011, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 16550 290th St. Long Grove. 

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at St. Ann’s.  Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery.  Dorothy died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, IL.

Dorothy Mary Metz was born February 26, 1922 in Riverside, Iowa, one of twelve children of Simon and Hortense (Bulger) Metz. She was united in marriage to Francis J. Brophy January 26, 1948 in Riverside, Iowa.  He preceded her in death May 9, 2001.

Dorothy was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and tending to her garden. Her seven grandchildren were the joy of her life.  She loved to attend and hear about all their activities.

Those surviving Dorothy are her children and their spouses: Richard Brophy, Glenwood, IA, Thomas (Shari) Brophy, Bettendorf, Colleen (Terry) Stone, Milan, IL, and James (Terese) Brophy, Lenexa, KS; grandchildren, Brian Stone, Kelly Stone, Kevin Stone, Katherine Brophy, Meghan Brophy, Margaret Brophy and Matthew Brophy; sisters, Vivian Kleinsmith, Iowa City, Donna Stumpf, Iowa City, and Ann Walsh, Davenport; brothers, John Metz, Riverside, IA and James Metz, Aledo, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, a daughter, Mary Ann Brophy, a son, Joseph F. Brophy, brothers, Melvin, Edward, Gerald, Elmer, and Urban Metz, and a sister, Gladys Kron.   May they rest in peace.
