Enrollment growth expected at preschool in St. Paul

In St. Paul, preschoolers play with goo in a sensory box.

The St. Paul Center operates a combined 3- and 4-year-old preschool program. This year the program operates under Cathy Garrels’ direction.

The daily schedule includes time at learning centers, circle time, art, a snack, recess, math and science. The program is offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Garrels uses a sensory box, in which students place their hands into gloves and touch the items in the box. Students have dug in dirt to find and observe worms, and experimented with goo  inside a box.

In the 2010-2011 school year, the program had seven children enrolled. At least 13 students are anticipated for the 2011-2012 school year, and there is potential for 16 students.
