Women have no equal opportunity in Church

Re: “It’s true: equal opportunity is us” (March 24, The Catholic Messenger).

As Catholic Christians we do indeed have a common mission to “live in the presence of love,” in sharing the teachings of Jesus and working together to help those in need. Common mission, however, does not indicate equality.

Presently, there is no “equal opportunity” in the Roman Catholic Church when women, comprising at least half of all Catholics, face exclusion at many levels, and when others are not always welcome at the banquet table.
