At this time, most Catholics in the Diocese of Davenport will have access to Matthew Kelly’s "Rediscovering Catholicism."
Thanks to The Catholic Messenger (Feb. 24, 2011) for reporting on the presentation by Matthew Kelly in Iowa City on Feb. 19. I urge you to participate in one of the book study groups offered in your own or neighboring parishes.
Most of those who attended the Iowa City presentation will have received a DVD of “The Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality.” Like his book, “Rediscovering Catholicism,” Kelly offers simple challenges to us to bring about changes in our lives, our congregations and our world.
I find Kelly’s delivery to be dynamic and his message to be one we all need to hear at this time. I have a suggestion for all those now in possession of his Seven Pillars DVD. Listen to it as soon as possible. Hopefully you will watch the DVD as a family. Bring it to the next meeting of a book study and offer to loan it to another participant who has not seen it. Ask that person to watch it during that week and return it so it can be loaned to another person who hasn’t heard it. In this way a large number of persons can experience the message and participate more fully in the book discussion. At the end of the book study, you should receive the DVD back, so you can share it with adult members of your family. And you can listen to the DVD in your car while you drive. It won’t make you sleepy.
Think of how many individual Catholics will have a better opportunity to grow spiritually during Lent, and what a positive effect it will have on our parish communities.
