Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Donna J. Bushek, 77, a resident of Davenport were Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boies Ave. Davenport.
Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park.
Donna died Friday, December 24, 2010 at Clarrisa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.
Donna Jean Christner was born December 3, 1933, in Washington, Iowa, a daughter of Freda Christner Aldrich and stepfather Virgil Aldrich. She graduated from Washington High School. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Bushek, Sr. in 1954. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1994.
She retired from the federal government in 1996, after a fulfilling career at the Rock Island Arsenal, Headquarters AMCCOM, Quality Assurance Directorate.
Donna’s true passion was serving her community and volunteering. Her civic contributions include, 32 years as a member of the Davenport Planning and Zoning Committee. Being selected to serve as the first women chairperson of the Scott County Democratic Central Committee was an achievement of which Donna was especially proud. She served the city of Davenport as a former 2nd Ward Alderman. She was a member of the Davenport Chamber of Commerce “Diplomats” and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Additionally, she was a volunteer driver for underprivileged children and many children she befriended requested her assistance by name. She was a member of the church, an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and playing cards, especially poker!
Memorials can be made to St. Alphonsus Church, the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, or Friends of the Davenport Public Library.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Robert and Debra Bushek, Jr., Tooele, Utah; Roberta “Bobbi” and Jim Goodin, Blue Grass, Iowa; and David and Kim Bushek, Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren, Carissa (Trent) Lafrentz, Sara Bushek, Eric (Sarah) Goodin, Carrie (Chris) Marxen, Amelia Bushek, Roman Bushek, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Oncology Unit of Genesis Hospital-West Campus, and the caring staff of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
