Helen C. Toohey, 83, of Bettendorf, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at her son’s residence in Davenport, after a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., Dec. 10, 2010, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport where a prayer service will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at the gathering space at church on Friday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.

Memorials may be made to Assumption High School, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, American Heart Society or Genesis Hospice.

Helen Claire Greenwood was born on Dec. 19, 1926 in Farley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Annie (Horsfield) Greenwood. She attended both Marycrest and St. Ambrose colleges in Davenport. Helen was a claims investigator with the State of Iowa Employment Service for 21 years.

Helen was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where she was an active volunteer. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to numerous bridge groups.

Helen is survived by her children, Timothy J. (Barbara) Toohey, Carroll, Iowa, Thomas W. (Carey) Toohey, Davenport, and Michael J. (Linda) Toohey, San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister, Mona (John) Cosgrove, Cincinnati, Ohio, brother-in-law, Bart (Mary Barb) Toohey, Moline, Ill. and sister-in-law, Marion Greenwood, Farley, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Glen, Loras, Eldon and Thomas Greenwood and sister, Lois Doyle.
