Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Donald R. Speth, 81, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division St., Davenport.

Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Church. Donald died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Crest Health Center, Davenport, after a courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease with his loving family at his side.

Donald Ralph Speth was born August 12, 1929 in Davenport, the son of Elmer and Bertha (Danielsen) Speth. He was united in marriage to Clara Blondell on September 24, 1949 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, Iowa.

Donald retired in 1988 as an assembler for Caterpillar Tractor Works, Mt. Joy, Iowa. He was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice, Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Huntington’s Disease Association or your favorite charity .

Survivors include his wife Clara, Davenport; sons, David (Cindy), Marion, IA, Dale, Davenport and Terry (Carolyn), Atkins, IA; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and brothers, Russell “Bud”, Columbus City, IA, and Orville, Davenport.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Brian, sister, Betty Lemberg and brothers Allen and Harvey.
