Deacon Robert Larsen

Deacon Robert Alan Larsen, a former deacon in the Diocese of Davenport, died Sept. 24 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was 66.

Born in Clinton, he attended schools in DeWitt and graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport.  While in college, he married Lorri Moffatt at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Davenport.

Deacon Larsen had a 42-year teaching and coaching career beginning in Breese, Ill., then went to Williamsburg, Mater Dei High School in Clinton, Assumption High School in Davenport, Carroll Kuemper in Carroll, Regina in Iowa City and Cornell College in Mount Vernon before going to Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona.

He was ordained a permanent deacon on June 2, 1984, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport by Bishop Gerald O’Keefe while studying for a master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

Deacon Larsen was a member of St. Cecelia Parish and the Algona Knights of Columbus Council #952 and the Fourth Degree Monsignor P.P. Gearen Assembly #2610. 

He is survived by his wife and four children.

His funeral service was to be held Sept. 28 at St. Cecelia Church in Algona.
