Davenport — A healing Mass will be celebrated Aug. 20 at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 10th and Iowa streets. Confessions begin at 6 p.m., praise music at 6:40 p.m. and Mass at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome.
MEETINGS
Clinton — The Pregnancy Center will be presenting a free, one-hour workshop for parents, grandparents, teachers and mentors of children and youths on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. A variety of educational resources will be presented and discussed to educate and equip individuals to combat negative cultural influences encouraging early sexual activity outside of marriage. Wheatland — A daylong event, “Are There Ghettos in Our Parishes?” will take place at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat near Wheatland Thursday, Sept. 2, from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Fee is $15, which includes lunch. Davenport — The St. Alphonsus Parish festival will take place Saturday, Aug. 28, from 5-9 p.m. at Birchwood and Boies Ave. A pork loin dinner will be served for $6 from 5-7:30 p.m. There will also be a concession stand, children’s and adults’ games, inflatables, a huge raffle, country store and entertainment. Everyone is invited.
Iowa City — There will be a benefit breakfast and silent auction for Mary Jo Loria on Sunday, Aug. 29, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Patrick Church. Loria was diagnosed with ALS three-and-a-half years ago. Money raised will be used to purchase a new wheelchair and a wheelchair-accessible van.
Newton — A historic Sacred Heart Cemetery walk is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 29, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. People are asked to meet at the Jasper County Museum.
Polishville — An annual bazaar will take place at the Polishville Community Center Aug. 15. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The menu includes Swiss steak or roast turkey with all the trimmings, beverages and dessert. Bingo is slated from noon to 1:30 p.m., and a raffle will take place at 2:15 p.m. Four donated, bed-size quilts, cash prizes and gift certificates will be raffled off. Six new, hand-quilted wall hangings will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Polishville is located 12 miles northeast of Fairfield and five miles south of Brighton.
