Donald Schebler


Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Donald J. Schebler, 89, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport.

Burial will take place in Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation began today at 4 p.m. with a family led rosary and will continue until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Mr. Schebler died Friday, June 11, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee while traveling with family.

Donald John Schebler was born Dec. 18, 1920 in Davenport a son of Carl R. and Catherine Irene (Trainor) Schebler. He was united in marriage to Catherine Bernadine Keogh on Feb. 19, 1966 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Don retired in 1988 after more than 20 years of service for the federal government. He was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal in the instrument repair division. Prior to this he had been employed a number of years for the former, Dave Nabstedt Jewelry.


He was a lifetime member of St. Alphonsus Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. Don was an auto buff and was especially interested in antique cars; he was an avid sports fan, enjoyed traveling, camping and playing cards. He cherished the time spent with his family and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the St. Alphonsus Foundation.

Survivors include his wife, Bernie, and children, CAPT. Dan (Karen) Schebler, U.S. Navy, Fairfax, Virginia, Meg Schebler, Davenport and Beth Schebler, Davenport; grandsons, Mark and Adam Schebler; sisters, Catherine Allen, Davenport, Dolores (Warren) McKenney, Davenport, Rosemary (Roald) Zvonik, Moline, and Patricia Lowe, Muscatine.
