Notre Dame dean to speak at St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT — John McGreevy, dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame, will give a public lecture on the campus of St. Ambrose University. “Arts and Letters for the 21st Century,” sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of the Quad Cities and St. Ambrose, will take place Wednesday, June 9, at 7 p.m. in the Rogalski Center, located at the corner of Ripley and Lombard Streets, one block west of Harrison Street. The lecture is free and open to the public; a reception will follow.

Joining the faculty of Notre Dame in 1997, McGreevy served as chair of the history department from 2002-2008 prior to becoming a dean in 2009. McGreevy is the author of two books: “Parish Boundaries: The Catholic Encounter with Race in the Twentieth Century Urban” and “Catholicism and American Freedom: A History,” and has written widely for other publications. McGreevy has received major fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the Louisville Institute and the Erasmus Institute He earned his doctorate from Stanford University, Calif.
