Sister Betty Slown, BVM (Laetitia), 71, died April 8 at Marian Hall in Dubuque. Burial was to be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Dubuque.

In the Diocese of Davenport, Sr. Slown taught first grade at St. Paul the Apostle School in Davenport from 1981–84. She taught first grade at St. Irenaeus School in Clinton from 1979–81.

She also taught elementary school in East Moline, Ill., and Chicago; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Glendale and Tempe, Ariz.; Stockton, Calif.; Chickasaw, Ala.; and Warrington, Fla. She also served in volunteer parish ministry to the elderly and worked part-time in a variety of clerical positions in Pensacola, Fla. from 1990–2004.

Sr. Slown was born March 12, 1939, in Lexington, Ill. She entered the BVM congregation on Aug. 2, 1957, from St. Mary Parish in Pontiac, Ill. She professed first vows on Feb. 3, 1960, and final vows on July 16, 1965.
