Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Russell P. McConnell, Sr. will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1506 Brown St., Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a Christian wake service Friday at the funeral home at 4 p.m. to begin the visitation. Additional visitation will be Saturday in the gathering space at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. Russell died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park, Davenport, after a brief illness.

Russell Paul McConnell, Sr. was born July 5, 1939 in Davenport, the son of Elwin and Frances (Boland) McConnell. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in 1957.

Russell was united in marriage to Margaret (Margy) Gehring Aug. 6, 1999 in Davenport.

He retired in 2000 after 43 years with General Electric as a sales engineer. He enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds in his yard. What he truly enjoyed was taking those long walks in the park with his Irish setter, Lady.

Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

Survivors include his wife Margy, his children and their spouses, Russell and Elizabeth McConnell, Jr, Woodhull, Ill., Theresa McConnell Neuman and John Granger, Milan, Ill., Michael McConnell, Seattle. and Michelle and Heath Lindquist, Bettendorf, Kurt Gehring and Elsa Gehring, both of Davenport; grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Samantha, Nathan, Tabitha, Abigail, and Avery; and a sister in law, Patricia Sheehey McConnell, Blue Grass, Iowa,

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and brothers David and William. May they rest in peace.
