Deacon Juan Leza, 95, of Muscatine, died Feb. 28 at Carrington Place in Muscatine. Funeral services were held March 5 at St. Mathias Church in Muscatine. Burial will take place in Mexico at a later date.
Leza was born April 15, 1914, in Melchor Muzquis COH, Mexico. He married Ofelia Valver on August 25, 1943, in Mexico. She preceded him in death in 1985.
He worked at Quality Foundry, retiring in 1983. He also worked as a finish carpenter. Deacon Leza was also an accomplished harmonica player and loved to play for family and friends.
He was a member of St. Mary Church in Muscatine and was ordained as a deacon on Jan. 31, 1981, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. He served the Hispanic community in Muscatine after his ordination at the Guadalupe mission. He retired as a deacon at age 75.
