Iowa City — Michael Schorsch will present a Catholic Scholar Seminar at the Newman Catholic Student Center Jan. 31 at noon. The presentation will be “Living the Beautiful in Art and Life”: a lecture and discussion with Newman Center Catholic Studies Scholar and translator/editor Mike Schorsch.

Davenport — “Tender Mercies,” a false-self film festival, will take place in the Holy Family Church meeting room at Marquette and Pleasant streets Jan. 31. People will gather at 1 p.m. for Centering Prayer. The film and discussion will follow and end by 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Wilton — St. Mary Parish is hosting GriefShare sessions on Sundays from 6:30-8 p.m. at the church. The series, sponsored by the Durant-Wilton Ministerial Association, is a weekly seminar/support group for people grieving the death of someone close. Muscatine – Bishop Hayes Catholic School will celebrate Catholic Schools Week beginning Saturday with a student-led Mass at St. Mathias Church at 5 p.m. A kickoff assembly will follow at the school Monday. Tuesday is neighbor day. Wednesday is alumni day, featuring an alumni all-school Mass. On Thursday, a staff appreciation luncheon will take place. On Friday, a magician will perform, and students will enjoy sundaes and classroom bingo.
Ottumwa — St. Mary of the Visitation Parish will host its annual spaghetti dinner Sunday, Jan. 31 in the church hall at Court and E. Fourth streets. Menu includes salad, French bread, spaghetti and meat sauce, cheesecake and beverages.
