Sister Rita Benz, BVM, 87, who served in the Diocese of Davenport, died Jan. 10 at Marian Hall, Dubuque. Burial is in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Dubuque.
Sr. Benz was born May 11, 1922, in Chicago. She professed to the BVM congregation on Aug. 15, 1952.
In the Davenport Diocese, Sr. Benz was a secondary school teacher. From 1947-48 and 1955-58, she taught at Immaculate Conception Academy, and from 1958-61 she taught at Assumption High School, both in Davenport. She also taught high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Rock Island, Ill. From 1962-92, she served in many public relations positions in Chicago and at the BVM Center at Mount Carmel, Dubuque.
