Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for David L. Turnmeyer, 62, of Davenport, was 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport.  Due to the observance of Veterans Day, burial was scheduled for Nov. 12 at the National Cemetery Rock Island Arsenal with military graveside committal rites conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Q.C. Chapter No. 299. Visitation was held Nov. 10 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Dave died unexpectedly Nov. 6, 2009, after suffering an apparent massive heart attack while at work. 

David Lee Turnmeyer was born July 30, 1947 in Dubuque, a son of Donald Forrest and Rose Marie (Frick) Turnmeyer. He attended Holy Ghost Catholic Elementary school, graduated from Wahlert High School, and attended Loras College in Dubuque. 

He was proud to have served our country in the U.S. Army.  He served as a Medic during the Vietnam War and assisted the Burn Unit.

He was united in marriage to Donna Mae Petry on Sept. 16, 1972, in Dubuque.  They were blessed with over 37 years of marriage and two children.

Dave began a career as a Meat Cutter in Dubuque, and had worked for numerous independent and corporate grocer chains.  He was currently working for Hy-Vee Food Stores at the Rockingham Road location in Davenport.  He had also consecutively worked for 25 years for Reiser-Jennings.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish where he had been an active volunteer and eucharistic minister. 

Dave was devoted to his family, and was a proud papa to his two beloved granddaughters.  He enjoyed working on his computer, playing cards, and was an avid sports fan.

Memorials can be made to the family to benefit a charity to be selected in Dave’s name.

Survivors include his wife, Donna, sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel and Heather Turnmeyer, Bettendorf, Dennis Turnmeyer, Davenport; two granddaughters, Isabella and Mercedes Turnmeyer; sisters, Mary Ann (Pat) Quinn, Bettendorf, Sister Inez “Janet” Turnmeyer, OSF,  Patricia Turnmeyer, and Judy Hemingson, all of Dubuque, Bette Lou (Bob) Thompson, East Dubuque, a sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Ray) Schmerbach, Dubuque, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

His parents, twin brothers, John Joseph and Tommy Lee, and a brother-in-law, Carroll “Chub” Hemingson, preceded him in death.  May they rest in peace.
