Clinton parish plans third Peru pilgrimage

Five years ago, Clinton’s Prince of Peace Parish began a “sister parish” relationship with a newly formed parish in the Diocese of Chulucanas, Peru.  On Sunday, Nov. 15, the Clinton parish will begin forming its third pilgrimage to Peru as parish representatives will once again celebrate the feast day of their sister parish, La Virgen Pura y Limpia in Sapillica.

Sunday’s celebration begins with a rosary procession at 1:30 p.m. on the parish grounds or in the church if the weather is inclement.

The rosary procession will be followed by a new PowerPoint presentation and discussion led by Sister Anne Martin Phelan and Sister Mary Ann Phelan, Clinton Franciscans who visited the Diocese of Chulucanas last February. Mary Jo Dopson of Gateway Travel, a two-time Peru pilgrim, will then explain how to join the third parish pilgrimage to Peru, which is being organized for June 2010.

Peruvian music and a surprise event will cap off the afternoon.  Refreshments, including Peruvian chiffles and Inca Cola, will be served.

An annual highlight of the feast day celebration is the sale of handmade Peruvian crafts after all the Masses at Prince of Peace Church on Nov. 14-15.  Fair trade coffee and cocoa and Christmas cards and note cards made in Peru will also be available for sale.  Proceeds from the sales benefit the sister parish.

All are welcome. For more information, call the parish office at (563) 242-3311.
