Helen Weidmann McClellan, 91, of Burlington, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born Feb. 19, 1918, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Andrew Weidmann and Edith Karver. She was a Sister of Charity of Blessed Virgin Mary. Sister Mary Andreas taught at Catholic schools for 40 years in Chicago, Davenport, and Burlington. She received a dispensation from her religious vows. On Oct. 10, 1978, she married Louis “Mac” McClellan in Burlington. They made their home in Roger, Ark. He died June 4, 1979. She was employed at Dream Valley Realty.

Helen was a 1936 graduate of St. Paul’s High School and a graduate of Clarke College.

She was a member of Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church, Burlington, and St. Vincent’s parish in Rogers, Ark., where she served on several committees. Helen loved life, entertaining her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, flowers, reading, games, animals, and her beloved dog, “Pepper.”

Survivors include one step-son, Charles “Chuck” McClellan of Midwest City, OK; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Vorwerk and Frances Vorwerk, one stepson, Edward McClellan, and one stepdaughter, Margaret Rabinak.

As per Helen’s request cremation has been accorded.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. McClellan will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Father Father Patrick Hilgendorf as the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Divine Word Missionaries.
