Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for James C. Hult, 82, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 1p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th St., Bettendorf. Burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the church. Mr. Hult died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus surrounded by his loving family.

James Charles Hult was born Feb. 13, 1927, in Davenport, a son of Manley and Mayme (Shields) Hult. Jim was a 1945 graduate of St. Ambrose Academy. He attended St. Ambrose College and then graduated from the University of Iowa (“always be a Hawkeye”).  Jim proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the Intelligence Corps at the U.S. Embassy in Paris.  He was united in marriage to Marjorie Bender on Aug. 5, 1950, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. They have shared over 59 years of marriage together.

Jim was manager of personnel at John Deere, Silvis Foundry.  He retired in 1982.  After retiring from Deere, Jim went to work for the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.  He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, Outing Club, Bettendorf Chamber and Illinois Quad City Chamber, the University of Iowa Alumni Association and the National I-Club. He also enjoyed being a member of “Read to Me,” a program through CASI where Jim went to read to students in his daughter, Sandy’s classroom.  Jim was very active in building the Bettendorf Children’s Museum, where he was a member of the first board of directors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Genesis Foundation, or to the Bettendorf Children’s Museum.

Survivors include his loving wife, Marjorie, Bettendorf; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan (Bruce) Turner, Janesville, Iowa, Sandra (Ronald) Lange, LeClaire, Stephanie (Thomas) Hull, Navarre, Fla., Mary (Dallas) Truex, Blue Springs, Mo; and a son and daughter-in-law, David (Janis) Hult, Moline, Ill.; grandchildren, Tristi King, Travis Turner, Shannon (Wade) Arnold, Dennis (Lydia) Lange, Lindsay Rolwes, Ryan Rolwes, Alexandra Rolwes, Joshua Kemp, Brandon Acaster, Erik Hult, Andrea Hult, Kaleb Hult, Stephanie Truex and Britany Truex; great-grandchildren, Dakota Lau, Silis Schipper, David Arnold, and Regan Arnold; a sister-in-law, Eloise Hult, Shawnee, Kan.; nephews, Stephen, Gregory, Robert and Thomas Hult.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Nelda Hult and a brother, William Hult.
