Davenport — The Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities and St. Ambrose University invite the public to a free presentation Aug. 27 by a Catholic priest who is a Holocaust investigator. Father Patrick Desbois will present “The Holocaust by Bullets: A Priest’s Journey to Uncover the Truth Behind the Murder of 1.5 Million Jews” from 7-8:15 p.m. at the Rogalski Center at St. Ambrose University.


Bettendorf — An introductory Centering Prayer workshop will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1506 Brown St., Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Bob and Joan Timmons will present. Davenport — The Sisters of Humility invite the general public to pray with them at 11:40 a.m. Wednesdays during a special Mass for peace. It will be celebrated in the Magnificat Chapel at the Humility of Mary Center, 820 W. Central Park Ave.

Iowa City — People meet to pray the rosary and receive Communion at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at Melrose Meadows Retirement Community. All Catholics are welcome.

Melrose — The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Burlington — Notre Dame schools are selling tickets for their 12th annual Pot O’ Blue and Gold Raffle. More than $150,000, including a $100,000 grand prize, will be awarded Aug. 8. Camanche — Church of the Visitation will host a corn boil Aug. 9 from 3-7:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per adult, $3 per child age 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger. Menu includes corn on the cob, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, potato salad, beans, dessert and beverages.

Charlotte — Assumption  & St. Patrick Parish is hosting a beef and pork dinner with all the trimmings, including a beverage and dessert, on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The event will be held at the Millennium Ballroom in Goose Lake. Carryouts also available. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for children 3 and younger. There will also be a gift basket silent auction, children’s games, bingo and a country store. The Charlotte German Band will play at 1:30 p.m.

Davenport — The 2009 Father Ken Martin Golf Outing and Dinner will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Emeis Golf Course and the Davenport Elk’s Club. LeClaire — The Msgr. Leo J. Feeney assembly of the Knights of Columbus will have its annnual Msgr. Leo J. Feeney/Fr. Bader steak fry  Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the River Church.  The event is $10 for assembly members. Reservations should be made to Tim Tisinger at (563) 332-8261.

Long Grove — St. Ann Parish Knights of Columbus  will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 16 in the Great Hall. Menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, coffee, orange juice and milk. Cost is a good will offering to the Knights.

Mechanicsville — St. Mary Parish will host its annual ice cream social and country store Aug. 16 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the church hall. Maid-Rites, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, pie, cake, ice cream, coffee and cold drinks will be served. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children and free for children 3 and younger. All are welcome.
