Fr. Bud Grant marks 25 years as priest

Father Bud Grant, assistant professor of theology at St. Ambrose University in Davenport and sacramental minister to St. Andrew Parish in Blue Grass, celebrated his silver jubilee as a priest Aug. 5.

Fr. Grant, a native of the Diocese of Des Moines, attended grade school and high school in Council Bluffs. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport and completed his theological studies at Gregorian University in Rome.

On Aug. 5, 1984, he was ordained at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines by Bishop Maurice Dingman.

From 1984-89 he served at St. Mary Parish in Portsmouth and St. Boniface Parish in Westphalia, both in the Des Moines Diocese. He then taught at St. Albert High School in Council Bluffs from 1989-94 while completing studies at Creighton University in Omaha.

In 1994, he was invited to work in campus ministry and to teach at St. Ambrose University. While at St. Ambrose, Fr. Grant also completed his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa.

In addition to his theology department duties, he is director of general education and head men’s soccer coach at the university. Since July 1, 2008, Fr. Grant also has been sacramental minister to the Blue Grass parish.
