Staff support day rescheduled for May

Preparing for Disasters Diocesan Support Day has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Holy Trinity Parish Center in Richmond.

Bishop Martin Amos would like at least one representative from each parish and school to attend the staff support day.

Parishes and schools are asked to re-register by May 18 those who will attend the support day. Lunch is included.

The daylong workshop will feature three presentations; the new diocesan Disaster Preparedness and Response Planning Guide; information on creating disaster kits for home, business, parish and school; and how to create and maintain a stockpile of food and supplies.

Glenn Leach, a volunteer with the social action office for the diocese, will talk on his experience working with organizations after the floods of 2008 that affected parts of the diocese. Deacon Jerry Miller will talk about his experience after a tornado struck St. Patrick Church in Iowa City on Holy Thursday 2006. Terry Eagle, a retired Muscatine fire fighter and member of Ss. Mary & Mathias Parish in Muscatine, will talk about the fire that destroyed Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Muscatine in 1997.

For more information or a registration form, visit the diocesan Web site at or call Barb Butterworth at the diocese at (563) 324-1911.
