Don’t fear letting go of old ways

Thank you for the editorial supporting Dr. Keith Soko’s article on EWTN. The number of negative responses was startling.

There are many who want “Holy Mother Church” to keep them snugly wrapped in swaddling clothes, in a world in which the rules are very simple: “Pray, pay and obey,” and “Father knows best.”

I am reminded of what Paul says in I Corinthians 13:11. “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.” Yes, there is a time for this. But then he goes on: “when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways.”

Many fear to let go of old, accustomed ways. To do so is a challenge involving struggle, and can be frightening. Thank you for recognizing the needs of some while also speaking out on behalf of those who, since Vatican II, are striving to put an end to childish ways.
