CLINTON — The Sisters of St. Francis invite the public to join them at Vespers — evening prayer — on Sundays during Lent at The Canticle, 841 13th Ave. N, beginning March 1.

The 40-minute prayer services will begin at 6 p.m. Vespers are composed of Scripture readings, hymns, psalms, reflection and prayer.

“Solemn Vespers, or evening prayer, is an ancient tradition,” explained Sister Joan Theiss, OSF, coordinator of the weekly devotion. Celebrants look back on the day just passed with all its saving graces and pray in thanksgiving.  Vespers is also a song of salvation.  Vespers is prayed at the chronological time that Christ was seated with his apostles in the upper room for the Last Supper,” she explained.  “That is one of the main reasons we invite the public to join us for evening prayer during Lent,” she said.

Parking is available in front of The Canticle. For more information, call Sisters of St. Francis at  (563) 242-7611.
