EWTN shows beauty of church’s traditions

To the Editor:

Sorry, Dr. Soko, I do not agree with your observations about EWTN as the Catholic channel. Like so many Catholics, you are assuming that Vatican II was the answer for many of the problems in our church.  Unfortunately, it created a lot of problems that have taken many Catholics away from the church. EWTN reminds us daily of the beauty in our church through its traditions.

I agree the church was somewhat oppressive pre-Vatican II, but sadly, it has swung completely in another direction. For example, the altars were stripped and the tabernacles shoved to the side. The Latin Mass was gone. I believe the Mass is beautiful in any language, but the Latin Mass felt universal to me. You could travel anywhere and feel the communion of souls. Also, since Vatican II, there is less reverence in our church. Confession is almost exempt, marriage is no longer sacred and there are very few religious.

EWTN is a beacon of hope for our church. Mother Angelica had the foresight to offer the world a view of the true Catholic Church. Keep listening and watching EWTN. There is still a lot to be learned.
