SAU radio, TV earn awards at IBNA convention

DAVENPORT — St. Ambrose University earned awards at the Iowa Broadcast News Association Convention last month in Johnston, Iowa.

In the student radio division, KALA-FM earned first place in the following categories: Overall Excellence; Political Coverage (Bee Election Central 2024); Sports Play-by-Play (Luke Vera and Ryan Schiestel’s coverage of the March 11, 2024 SAU vs. Augustana softball game); and Best Podcast (Relevant or Irrelevant: Craig DeVrieze: Celebrating the John Deere Classic.) The radio station earned second place in the best podcast category for “Relevant or Irrelevant: Cammie Pohl — Davenport’s Mississippi Spoon Gallery And Museum.”

SAUtv earned first place in the general reporting category for “Latinos Unidos Make Their Voices Heard” by Maria Luiza Garuba Coelho. The TV station earned second place for Overall Excellence, Best Newscast, and In-Depth Series (Sydnee Horstman’s coverage of SAU’s 12th annual Dance Marathon.)
