Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On the weekend of May 3-4, our diocese will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For more than 50 years, this collection has given Catholics in the United States an opportunity to share faith in unity with our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout Latin America and the Caribbean islands.
Through the Collection for the Church in Latin America, Catholics in the United States can express a closer unity with and love for their brothers and sisters in Central and South America and the Caribbean islands. This unity was fully expressed in autumn 2024, when Catholics from around the world gathered for an International Eucharistic Congress in Quito, Ecuador, to celebrate the country’s 150th anniversary of its consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Using funds received from the Collection for the Church in Latin America, the Archdiocese of Quito welcomed thousands from around the world — including a delegation of Catholics from the United States led by Bishop Andrew Cozzens — to pray together, encounter the love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and share their faith. When you participate in the collection at your parish, you support special events such as the Eucharistic Congress as well as the ongoing work of forming catechists, supporting vocations to priesthood and religious life, and implementing family ministries throughout Latin America.
Please be generous toward this collection. Consider giving at Mass on the weekend of May 3-4 or through your parish’s online giving platform. Durante el fin de semana del 3 y 4 de mayo, nuestra diócesis realizará la Colecta para la Iglesia en Latinoamérica. Durante más de 50 años, esta colecta ha brindado a los católicos de Estados Unidos la oportunidad de compartir la fe en unidad con nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo de toda Latinoamérica y el Caribe.
A través de la Colecta para la Iglesia en América Latina, los católicos en Estados Unidos pueden expresar una unidad más estrecha y un amor más profundo por sus hermanos y hermanas de Centroamérica, Sudamérica y las islas del Caribe.
