DAVENPORT — St. Ambrose University earned 13 awards at the Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) Convention last month in Des Moines.
The Buzz/The Hive, the university’s student newspaper and media hub, won Best Multimedia Storytelling Package for Sydnee Horstman’s coverage of the SAU Dance Marathon. The Buzz/The Hive also earned second place in the Best Media Website category.
SAUtv won first place for Best Video Newscast; Best Video News Programming; Best Use of Social Media; and Best Experimental Video for Horstman’s “SAU Cheer Hype.” SAUtv Stingerz with Brett Billman won second place in the Best Variety Music Comedy Program category. Cole Negen earned third place in the Best Entertainment Storytelling Package category for “Vice President Pez Collection.”
KALA Radio earned first place in the Best Sports Broadcast category for Ryan Schiestel and AJ Tappa’s coverage of an SAU vs Briar Cliff football game. KALA also won the Best Promo category and took home second-place honors in the Best Entertainment Show category for “Live from the Hive.” Malu Garuba-Coelho earned third place in the Best Podcast Series category. “Unsportsmanlike Conduct” earned an honorable mention for Best Sports Program.
The ICMA is an organization of colleges and universities in Iowa committed to the development of excellence in media education. The annual conference is held in conjunction with the Iowa Newspaper Association’s conference.
