The Sisters of St. Francis in Clinton hope their new and improved logo will help them further their mission of living and promoting active nonviolence and peacemaking.

Last month, the Clinton Franciscans officially celebrated the release of the new logo with a cake and gifts — all imprinted with the new logo. The main colors are green and blue to reflect the sisters’ dedication to care of the earth, said Amanda Eberhart, director of communications and development. Brown-toned secondary colors also represent care of the earth while paying homage to the order’s Franciscan roots. “A lot of thought was put into choosing the colors,” she said. The design includes a green tau symbol with the words Sisters of St. Francis printed in dark blue. The logo and label are underlined by the words Clinton, Iowa, also in blue.

The logo is part of a series of changes the Clinton Franciscans are making to streamline communications. For example, mailings didn’t always use the previous logo, which was black and white and featured a tau symbol surrounded by two circles. “People who received materials didn’t necessarily know it was us,” Eberhart said. Placement of the new logo is now consistent in all mailings. This is especially helpful when sending materials to places that receive mailings from more than one Franciscan order, she said.

They’ve also split their newsletter, “The Intercom,” to create two separate publications. An internal newsletter, “In Connection,” is delivered to people within the order and an external newsletter, “Franciscan Voices,” goes to supporters, family members and friends. The sisters hope this will enhance communication inside and outside The Canticle, their motherhouse. A mobile-friendly website is also in the works.

When the sisters go into the community, they will wear name tags with the new Clinton Franciscans logo. Eberhart hopes it will allow the Clinton community to recognize even more the impact the Clinton Franciscans have in the community and how much they care. “At first glance, they will know it is us.”
