KEOKUK — The 3-year-old preschool program at St. Vincent School received a $900 grant last month from Big River United Way. The funding will be used to purchase student memberships for the online version of Creative Curriculum. With the online version, parents will be able to send teachers documentation of educational milestones their child reaches in the home.  Each student will have an online portfolio that is password protected.  The teacher will be able to share photos, dictations or student work with the family.
A portion of the grant will be used to purchase healthy snacks. Teacher Becky Blomme helps students create their own simple snack by following a picture recipe card and adding ingredients. A goal is for the children to continue eating healthy snacks while at home.
The 3-year-old program currently has 10 students. In the fall, the school hopes to expand to two classes containing eight students each. One class will be offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:15–11 a.m., and the other on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon.  A parent information night is Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m.  Call (319) 524-5450 for further details.
