Fr. Walter

Father William Walter, C.PP.S., of the United States Province of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, died on Feb. 6 at Mercer Health in Coldwater, Ohio. He was 91 years old.

Father Walter was born in Rensselaer, Indiana, on May 20, 1934, to the late Edward and Mildred (Borntrager) Walter. He entered formation with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood on Sept. 6, 1948, at Brunnerdale Seminary in Canton, Ohio, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 1961, at St. Charles Seminary in Carthagena, Ohio.

Father Walter spent a majority of his active years in parish ministry. He served as pastor of St. Mary Parish in Albia from 1999-2007. Precious Blood Companion Sharon Crall worked with Father Walter as a pastoral associate in Albia. “He was a humble servant who recognized and supported lay ministry,” she said. In the spring of 2023, Father Walter moved to retirement at St. Charles Senior Living Center in Carthagena, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 12 at St. Charles Center in Celina, Ohio. Burial followed in the community cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, United States Province.
