St. Mary Parish in Williamsburg recently broke ground on a $2.7 million building project to improve accessibility and provide extra space for parishioners to meet and mingle.
The 3,600-square-foot addition to the front of the church includes a street-level entry with gathering space and an elevator, a restroom, secretary office and space for children’s liturgy. Bray Architects of Davenport created the blueprint for the project.
City Construction began demolition and construction work in June. The project will take an estimated eight months to complete, said Betty Coleman, the parish’s bookkeeper. Parishioners are very excited to experience the building improvements, she said. — Lindsay Steele
