Clinton — The Clare Award is given to honor a woman who exemplifies the characteristics of St. Clare and the values of the Clinton Franciscans to live and promote active nonviolence, pursuing peace with justice in right relationship with all of creation. Clinton Franciscans will honor Marie Dennis with the Clare Award at 6:30 p.m. at Rastrelli’s Tuscany Special Events Center, 2417 Cleveland St. Dennis, the senior director of Pax Christi’s Catholic Nonviolence Initiative and former co-president of Pax Christi International, will speak at the award ceremony. This event is open to the public.

Moline, Ill. — A benefit performance for Christ Child Society of the Quad Cities of “Charlotte’s Web” will be at Play Crafters Barn Theater, 4950 35th Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m. and show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults or $15 for children under 18. Wheatland — Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat is hosting “Big Steppers: Men Willing to Step Up For Their Own Mental Health,” from 5 p.m. July 26 through 2 p.m. July 27. Gain spiritual insight into masculinity centered on Christ, not cultural expectations of manhood. Fee is $85. Davenport — St. Anthony Parish will host a Bix Mass with the Dixieland Band and the Locust Street Boys at the 10 a.m. Mass. A mini concert with refreshments follow afterward in the parish hall.

July 29
Davenport — St. Anthony Parish’s book study group will being reading “Rough Sleepers: Dr. Jim O’Connell’s Mission to Bring Healing to Homeless People” by Tracy Kidder. The book study meets Monday nights from 6-7 p.m. in the parish center.

Davenport — Holy Family parish is hosting a First Friday Fish Fry in Enright Hall after 5:30 p.m. Mass.

Aug 6
Online — Franciscan Peace Center is co-sponsoring a virtual prayer service at 6 p.m. to commemorate the tragic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in 1945. This prayer service intends to honor the 200,000+ victims while calling for renewed efforts to eliminate all nuclear weapons. Register at https://tinyurl.com/35t6rufh.

Aug 7
Wheatland — Celebrate Mass at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat at 10 a.m. The celebrant will be Father Brian Miclot. No registration is required.

Davenport — The Beat Must Go On pro-life event is 6:15-7:30 p.m. on the Sacred Heart Cathedral east lawn. Event includes a speaker, music and games. Bring chairs, blankets, beverages and snacks. Davenport — St. Alphonsus Parish Altar and Rosary Society is hosting a retreat wtih Father Bob Miller and Dr. Mark Nimo from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. in the school gym. The event will focus on Julian of Norwich and her visions and wisdom about prayer. Cost is $12. Call 563-940-1873 for more information or to register.

Davenport — Steve Angrisano will perform at a fundraiser concert for Mary’s Meals at 5:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral. No cost to attend; donations will be accepted.

Aug 17
Davenport — Holy Family Parish is hosting a Family Bible Breakfast. Celebrate Mass at 8 a.m., followed by a free breakfast, Bible study and praying the rosary. The focus will be the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Davenport — Holy Family parish will host an Our Lady of Fatima procession at 6 p.m.

Aug 20
Davenport — Holy Family parish will host Holy Face devotion at 6 p.m. with adoration and prayers with the Holy Face relic.

Aug 21
Solon — Steve Angrisano will perform at a fundraiser concert for Mary’s Meals at 5:45 p.m. at St. Mary Parish. No cost to attend; donations will be accepted.

Aug 24
Davenport — The Franciscan Peace Center and Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Center are sponsoring a live stage performance of “Squatters on Red Earth” at St. Ambrose University’s Galvin Fine Arts Center Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
“Squatters of Red Earth” is an exploration of history and cultural intersection written by Iowa’s Poet Laureate Emeritus, Mary Swander. This event, free and open to the public, delves into the positive relationship between the Amana Colonies and the Meskwaki Indigenous people amid the U.S. white settler land grab. Mary Swander will be available for an informal question and answer session after the performance.
The Franciscan Peace Center, established by the Sisters of St. Francis in Clinton, offers programming that integrates spirituality with nonviolence and social justice advocacy, addressing issues such as immigration reform and human rights. Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, a ministry of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, is located on a 100-acre native grass prairie woodland along the Wapsipinicon River in rural east central Iowa.

Sign up for Totus Tuus – 2024
Nine parishes in the Diocese of Davenport are hosting week-long Totus Tuus programs this summer. Totus Tuus is a youth catechetical program with an emphasis on sacraments, vocations, and developing a friendship with Jesus and his mother Mary. Each location has a morning program for elementary-aged youths and an evening program for junior high- and high school-aged youths.

LeClaire — Our Lady of the River Parish Caregiver Support Group meets the first Monday of every month in the parish hall from 10:30-11:30 a.m. unless it falls on a holiday. It is open to all caregivers who are looking for emotional and spiritual support as well as resources available to them. The facilitator is Amie Hammes, caregiver support specialist at Milestones Area Agency on Aging. Natural Family Planning courses
Learn the Couple to Couple League method of Natural Family Planning (NFP), which gives couples the knowledge to track fertility signs as a way to achieve or avoid pregnancy. NFP is the only method of family planning approved by the Catholic Church and modern, symptom-based methods demonstrate an accuracy of about 99% in identifying times of fertility and infertility, according to the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology.
