Father Bill Kneemiller is hosting a 20-minute introduction to The Liturgy of the Hours’ “Shorter Christian Prayer” book on Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. at Religious Supply Center, 1309 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport.
Father Kneemiller encourages families to pray the psalms contained in the book and to start with the 5-minute Night Prayer. “It is a great way to join your family in prayer and to join your prayers with the Catholic Church around the world,” said the senior priest in residence at Holy Family Parish in Davenport.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the Liturgy of the Hours is the “public prayer of the Church.” Praying the psalms, Father Kneemiller said, “extends the praise of the Mass. It is a connection to the ancient temple in Jerusalem, which sought to fulfill the admonition in Psalm 55 (vs.17-18), ‘I will call upon God, and the Lord will save me. At dusk, dawn, and noon I will grieve and complain, and my prayer will be heard.’” Father Kneemiller adds, “The family that prays together, stays together!”
